Resume Dont - Workology
Resume Dont Resume Dont Just yesterday received a resume via fax from a candidate who is interested in a career opportunity. I spent less than 5 seconds glancing at her resume before something stopped me in my tracks, the objective. Resume Dont OBJECTIVE: To work for a company that uses my many years of experience in fast food in either management or administrative in a position with your company. If given the chance I will meet expectations in a position with your company and use my experience in fast food and vocational school to the best of my ability. And to this I askWHY? This objective is long and rambles in addition to not getting to the point. Personally, I am not a fan of the Objective. I think it is a waste of valuable marketing space on your resume. Your coverletter can do a much better job of highlight your interest and focusing on any qualifications or characteristics that you feel set you apart from other candidates for the job. If you decide to include an Objective, make sure the objective directly relates to the position you are applying for. Dont be lazy and lump your administrative and management aspirations in the same objective. A resume is a marketing piece that is designed to grab the attention of the hiring manager much like a billboard or commercial does and in a short period of time, roughly 10-15 seconds. As I mentioned before, I am not a fan of Objectives but if you choose to include one here is an example of one that in my opinion is acceptable. OBJECTIVE: To secure a challenging position where skills, motivation, and performance will be utilized for mutual profit. This is short, sweet, and to the point. Happy Hunting!!

5 Things You Need For A Successful Second Interview
5 Things You Need For A Successful Second Interview 5 Things You Need For A Successful Second Interview Congrats! Procuring a second meeting greeting is no little accomplishment. You've outperformed sufficient and hardened rivalry to get this far. So loll in your prosperity for a second. You merit that mixture of certainty , and you'll require it to move you through the following round. Before you can nail this gathering, it's critical to know your motivation. How is this gathering not quite the same as your first? Nancy Range Anderson, creator , profession mentor and originator of Blackbird Learning Associates, LLC clarifies: During the main meeting, the questioner posed inquiries to decide three territories; would you be able to carry out the responsibility, do you fit into the organization culture and do you truly need this activity. It's quite sure that in the second meeting increasingly senior level staff will direct the meetings and keeping in mind that they may pose comparative or similar inquiries that were asked in the main meeting, the reason for this meeting is to contrast you and your range of abilities and different competitors . The subsequent meeting presents an opportunity to have a more profound discussion about the activity with a portion of the key players. Eagerness is a center segment of enthusiastic insight since it cultivates association. In case you're amped up for this activity and this organization, share that. Point out what you saw during your first meeting that got your energized. Sharing your veritable excitement empowers you to take advantage of that of your questioner; which can prompt a two-path discussion about expert interests . So consider what requests to you about this condition and the individuals you've met up until now. Do you sense that they all appear to truly cherish their employments? Do they appear to be amped up for their work, or about the populace they serve? Consider an ice breaker like: I met two colleagues when I was here a week ago. Both raved about the understudies here, which caused me to feel truly amped up for this possibility. That sort of excitement can't be faked, and it's such a solid underwriting. This can provoke your questioners to share what they love about their work and their work environment, which can extricate up the discussion and give you important bits of knowledge. A subsequent meeting presents an open door for you to sell you range of abilities and to show how your experience has all around situated you for the vacant position. Anderson calls attention to that at this stage, applicants should detail their achievements and spotlight on the effects of their expert endeavors. Anderson clarifies: The questioner at this stage needs to recognize, 'How might this benefit me/us?' and 'What can this applicant do to assist us with achieving our objectives that different up-and-comers can't do?'. Consider your present job. Perhaps you work for a universal association and you're knowledgeable in the subtleties of facilitating worldwide visitors and partners. Perhaps your work for a beginning up and you realize how to try sincerely and lean. Discover your edge. At that point show to your potential partners how your exceptional expert experience makes you especially appropriate for this job, and an absolute necessity have for their group. An expected set of responsibilities is an administrator's list of things to get for his/her optimal up-and-comer. Study this report to drive your prep. Anderson suggests: To set up the competitor needs to concentrate on the obligations, aptitudes and prerequisites of the vacant position and think of explicit conduct stories enumerating their activities and results. Anderson prompts an extremely immediate methodology: I recommend that the applicant draw a two-section outline. In the left section, list the hard and delicate aptitudes , assignments and employment duties expected of the position and in the right-hand segment work out instances of business related achievements that help these. Most importantly, the competitor should concentrate on their job in these achievements and use words, for example, I instead of We. While you generally need to underscore that you realize how to work well in a group, you additionally need to feature the individual victories that set you apart. Do your examination and know your value . Anderson exhorts: The competitor ought to be set up to talk about pay whenever during the meeting procedure. Anderson clarifies: Compensation conversations ordinarily come up towards the finish of the talking cycle and no doubt will be started by the questioner. This can be a positive sign. What will transpire? we may think. And as security we close positions or we assemble a divider around us and we make an effort not to be influenced by this change we fear. A few people respond another route and to secure themselves at that point put down others so as to cause themselves to feel 'safer'.Sometime the difficulties are not because of hierarchical change yet because of character. There might be a contrary individual that you need to work with every day and that begins to influence you r feeling of self and your joy level. You may feel disappointed and irritated from the outset yet then it begins to plant seed of uncertainty about your own abilities.Deepak Chopra said:'Negative individuals exhaust your vitality. Encircle yourself with adoration and sustenance and don't permit the making of pessimism in your environment.'This might be more difficult than one might expect as here and there this reaches out into the territory of working environment harassment.Have you encountered or saw work environment tormenting? Working environment tormenting isn't to be tolerated. It influences people by causing serious tension and other psychological well-being issues and it additionally can influence business results for organisations. In 2010, the Productivity Commission found that tormenting at work costs Australian associations between $6 billion and $36 billion per year in lost productivity. An Australian Human Rights Commission report cites The Beyond Bullying Association, ap praises that somewhere in the range of 400,000 and 2,000,000 Australians will be bugged at work while 2.5 to 5 million will encounter work environment provocation eventually during their careerLook intently at your system, and inquire as to whether any of the individuals in it:Drag you downMake you question your abilitiesNever appear to have thoughts of their own, however accept your thoughts and remarks as their ownAlways see the antagonistic in each situationPut you on the defensiveMake you dither about your choices and what you need to doTalk about themselves constantly and show little enthusiasm for youI was in a gathering once at a customer association, arranging the expense for an open door that had emerged because of somebody explicitly requesting to work with me and the individual with whom I was haggling with at this gathering said to me, You will always be unable to discover an open door like this on your own. That was, to me, a serious put down and I felt baffled that he w ould have said something so contrary and derogatory.I could have felt shaky and concurred with him and afterward taken a lower charge in light of the suggested slight. Be that as it may, fortunately, I realized that what he said was false as I had different customers who were paying me more than the entirety we were haggling at that point. So I had the option to counter that remark with confidence. In truth, I countered with rationale and held fast â" the arrangement didn't proceed however I kept up my trustworthiness and right up 'til the present time I am happy to such an extent that I did on the grounds that I was recounted this current man's standard harassing strategies during exchanges and later understood that I had naturally made a decent call by having confidence in myself instead of spot my value on another person's wrong perception. Now this was not progressing tormenting, it was tough arrangement, yet my point is that self-conviction and not withdrawing to methods that ma y put question in your brain about your own capacities is so important. So, what is working environment harassing? career coaching a waste of money - Margaret Buj - Interview Coach
Is interview/career coaching a waste of money - Margaret Buj - Interview Coach A few months ago I was speaking at a Stepstone career event organized by college students in London. There were 3 other presenters including someone talking about working with recruitment agencies and personal branding. I was talking about successful interviewing and after my presentation Iâve also reviewed several CVs and gave career/interview advice to several participants. During one of my conversations, I was asked this question: There are so many career coaches out there, how do I know which one to hire? Is it even worth it? Your Job Search is Like Running a Business I know youâve heard this before. But letâs get real with it. When a business hires a consultant, it is viewed as an investment not a cost. ROI is determined. Need is greater than cost. And a decision is made. (plus consultants are tax deductable) I find it very alarming that job seekers donât see their career coaches as a similar investment. Instead most people make the mistake of only looking at the price tag. And that is bad business. After all, your career or interview coach may be able to shave months off of your job search. Determining Your Investment First, think about how much you used to earn. Letâs say that is £3,000 per month. Therefore, the opportunity cost of not having a job is £3,000 per month minus unemployment benefits (if you have any). You lose £3,000 every month. A good interview/career coach or some kind of job search program will cost you between £200 and £1500 in total. An interview coaching session will cost you £150- £250. I canât tell you how many clients Iâve seen who have been out of work for months (in one case 2 years!) and who got a job within several weeks (sometimes within a week!) of working with me. The same clients who thought spending £200 on getting some support was âtoo expensiveâ ended up losing out on £10k, £20, £50k by not getting the support they needed and wasting months on unsuccessful interviewing. What Questions Should I Ask? When deciding on a career/interview coach or job seeking program, you only really need to know if they can help you get a result. So ask them: ⢠What is the average number of months your clients take to get a job? ⢠How many job interviews do you think you can help me get per week? ⢠What is your success rate? ⢠What is your recruitment/interviewing experience? (There are a lot of consultants out there whoâve never worked in recruitment, they probably canât find jobs themselves and so they pretend to help others find employment) Where to Start If you donât know what you want to do or want a complete career change, you really need to see a career change expert. Someone who can help you with self-assessments and personality matching. I donât specialize in career change myself but I could recommend someone if you were interested. If you happen to like my advice and think that I can shave some months off of your job search, you might be interested in my Job Search Programmes. And if youâve not seen my âYouâre HIRED!â FREE video course yet, you can get access here: http://www.YouAreHiredVideoCourse.com Remember, never think of a consultant, coach or training program as a cost. Think of it as an investment. Calculate the benefits of that investment intelligently. And you could be back to work or in a new, great job sooner that you think.

All your holiday and end of year tipping questions, answered
All your vacation and end of year tipping questions, replied All your vacation and end of year tipping questions, replied 'Tis the season to be sprightly, and part of that implies spreading the cheer. We offer endowments to our friends and family, but on the other hand it's ideal to offer back to the individuals who help every one of us year. They depend on a vacation reward from us the same amount of as we depend on their administrations each day.But among Americans, there is by all accounts some inconsistency in who to tip, and the amount to give. For city tenants, the appropriate response might be totally different from individuals in suburbia or nation. What's more, everybody has their own edge they're OK with, as far as how much pocket change to offer away. There's nobody right response to the amount to tip during the special seasons, and it's alright to be as liberal as you need to be. All things considered, here's a gander at a portion of the callings that frequently depend on vacation tips this season and what amount is ordinary to give.HaircareArguably, you ought to tip your stylist or beauticia n all year. Be that as it may, the special seasons are a particularly decent time to show you're thankful for your extraordinary 'do with some extra cash. One in three Americans state they're tipping their beauticians this Christmas season, as per an ongoing Quartz and SurveyMonkey survey. As a rule, those tips fall beneath $50, and about 33% of them will be between $20-$29.However, in case you're feeling particularly thankful, it's alright to offer up to the expense of one salon visit. In case you're somebody who's burning through hundreds on your locks, that may not be commonsense. It truly relies upon the context.Postal administration and trash collectionMail bearers really should acknowledge cash from the individuals they serve. As government laborers, they're permitted to take a blessing with a $20 esteem or less, however they can't in fact take a tip. So in the event that you need to state thank you to your mail transporter, that is extraordinary - get them a fun or helpful pre sent that is around $20. It may not be money, however it's certain to put a grin on their face.Same with city workers - in certain regions, tipping isn't permitted. In the event that you live in one of those, give a blessing. If not, $10-30 ought to do.ChildcareWhether you utilize a childcare, sitter, live-in caretaker or other childcare, it's a smart thought to show the individuals who deal with your kids that you value their assistance. A few people tip up to a huge number of dollars. But excessiveness isn't important. For a sitter, attempt a couple of evenings' compensation for a tip. Give a babysitter or live in housekeeper what might be compared to possibly 14 days in pay. What's more, at your kid's childcare, anyplace between $25-$70 per representative who works with your child is great.Pet careJust like we depend on others to watch our kids, we need somebody to care for our pets. All things considered, Teddy needs his walks!During the Christmas season, it's ideal to surrender your canine walker to multi week's compensation and a custodian a tip up to the cost of one visit. Just 5% of respondents to the Quartz/SurveyMonkey review tipped their pooch walkers. Be that as it may, when they did, they gave a normal of $79.Apartment buildingFor individuals in a loft, it can make for a pleasant motion to tip your staff. Supers and directors get tipped a normal of $114, as indicated by Quartz, however anyplace between $20-80 is totally fine. Concierges and lift administrators could utilize a tip too, going from $20-100 (porters ought to draw nearer to $100, while anyplace between $20-50 is fine for a lift operator).NewspapersYour paper doesn't mysteriously show up on your stoop. Somebody conveys it consistently, and they could profit by a tip. It's prescribed to give the expense of one month's membership, or $10-30.Cleaning and repairPool cleaners, jacks of all trades and individuals who work for cleaning administrations likewise may expect an occasion tip, partic ularly in the event that they're regulars. A tip up to the cost of a solitary visit, or week by week pay, is useful for the individuals who stop in on a standard premise (jacks of all trades can get less, from $15-40). For live-in help, as long as a month's pay is appropriate.WellnessIf you depend on a fitness coach or back rub advisor, consider following through on them up to the cost of one meeting for a tip. They accomplish such a great deal to keep you fit as a fiddle, and chances are they're getting a little cut of whatever you're paying their establishment. As we get our vacation rewards and appreciate the additional cushioning in our financial balances, it's acceptable to share the riches and offer back to the individuals who have given to us all through 2018. A little tip can go far during the special seasons, so here's to showing proactive kindness.

Following introductory statements from ASME Executive Director/CEO Tom Costabile and coordinators Alayon and Russo, a few staff individuals gave a progression of short introductions intended to furnish participants with a diagram of the numerous projects and occasions that are accessible to designing understudies and early profession builds through ASME. It was extremely extraordinary, she said. I came here to become familiar with the various chances and I found about the partnership that you offer through Engineering for Change and turned in my resume to check whether I could join. I found out about E-Fest and EFx, which is going on directly over the road from my school in half a month. I additionally found out about the Future ME program for individuals who are graduating. I believe that is significant due to the systems administration associations. Things can get extremely serious when youre searching for occupations in the field. Harris Paspuleti, an ASME understudy part and sophomore at Cooper Union, was comparatively energetic about the occasion. Our ASME part at Cooper Union is quite little, so we experience a ton of difficulty contacting individuals from the mechanical designing network in the New York City locale, said Paspuleti, who went to with two understudies from his college. Resulting in these present circumstances occasion truly felt like we were a piece of something greater, however. Since we think pretty much the entirety of the assets the grants, rivalries and occasions we can return to our school and urge more individuals to be a piece of this association. (Left to right) Karen Russo, venture supervisor for the ASME Executive Office, with ASME understudy part Anisha Cartagena and Valentina Alayon, facilitator, Student and Early Career Engagement and Experience, at the ASME Connect blender. Giving the occasions simultaneously existing meetings or exercises will be a key component of the ASME Connect model as the program extends, as per Alayon, refering to the occasion at IMECE for instance. At IMECE, all the ASME individuals the understudies would need to meet were there as of now, she said. There was a Board of Governors meeting arranged. Our senior VPs were at that point there. The Truth About Maternity Leave in the UK
The Truth About Maternity Leave in the UK by Tom Bunkham By global comparison, the UK ranks well for paid maternity leave. Yet, according to a study by USwitch, 28% of new mothers in Britain end up in debt. One explanation lies in the distinction between âpaidâ leave and âwell-paidâ leave.According to the International Network on Leave Policies and Research, receiving 66% or more of your salary while on maternity leave is considered âwell-paidâ. Using this benchmark, the UK finds itself slipping down the charts, as shown below. In the chart above, only 5 countries (Sweden, South Africa, Canada, Australia and the UK) drop down the table when you consider well-paid leave as opposed to just paid leave. The following calendar paints a clearer picture of maternity leave in the UK, by distinguishing between the duration of paid, well-paid and unpaid entitlement.New fathers in the UK are entitled to a fortnightâs paternity leave at a capped rate of £136.78 per week. According to a government study, 34% of fath ers in the UK donât take the full 2 weeks, 66% of whom said it was because they couldnât afford to.The picture in Scandinavian countries is very different, with 90% of new dads in Norway taking their full paternity leave, and 73% in Sweden. Paternity leave in Norway and Sweden more than qualifies as âwell-paidâ, while fathers in Britain are offered only 31% of the national average salary. The above comparisons all relate to statutory pay, the minimum amount employers are legally required to provide. Some companies, however, offer more generous maternity packages. Accounting firm KPMG, for example, offers 16 weeks of fully paid maternity leave. When she went on maternity leave, working mum and blogger Susan Mann was lucky enough to get paid two monthsâ full wage before reverting to the statutory amount. But she says maternity leave was still difficult. âI made sure I saved and paid for any large purchases required beforehand then I kept some savings for an emergency.âGett ing into debt is a real worry for expectant mothers. One tip from Susan is to renegotiate your mortgage terms: âI arranged to have a maternity mortgage break. This is not ideal as it means the interest you accrue gets added to the end of your mortgage. But its the only way I could take time off without stressing or getting into debt.âTop tip from blogger and working mum Cass, from The Diary of a Frugal Family is, âDonât feel like you have buy everything brand new second hand for most things is fine. And donât forget that you can sell things on when youre finished with them, baby things always sell really well.âLuschka from Diary of a First Child says she did have to make cut backs whilst on statutory maternity pay, but it was a small price to pay for staying at home with her children. âMy top tip would be to decide whats most important to you, and invest in thatâ she said.âTo me, being home with my teensy, tiny baby was the most important thing that first year, a nd so I didnt feel that the things I had to give up were that much of a sacrifice.âIf youâve experienced maternity or paternity leave, what was it like? Weâd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. If you own a blog, and you want to share this content, thereâs a full infographic available here, or feel free to share the charts embedded in this post.Definitions:In keeping with International Network on Leave Policies and Researchâs methodology, this post uses the following definitions:Maternity leave is counted under the narrow definition of leave generally available to mothers only, to be taken just before, during and immediately after childbirth. It does not include entitlement to additional parental leave. As opposed to maternity leave and paternity leave, parental leave is generally understood to be a care measure, intended to give parents the opportunity to spend time caring for a young child. It can usually only be taken after the end of maternity leave, and ca n often be divided between either parent, though sometimes contains specific minimum quotas for fathers and mothers. The UK offers 18 weeks of unpaid parental leave to be taken before the child turns five years old.Paternity leave is counted as leave generally available to fathers only, usually to be taken soon after the birth of a child.Source: International Network on Leave Policies and ResearchFind a job What Where Search JobsSign up for more Career AdviceSign up for moreCareer Advice Please enter a valid email addressmessage hereBy clicking Submit you agree to the terms and conditions applicable to our service and acknowledge that your personal data will be used in accordance with our privacy policy and you will receive emails and communications about jobs and career related topics. Sexual Harassment - What it Is and What it Isnt
Sexual Harassment - What it Is and What it Isnt If you run or manage a small or medium sized business, youre probably very aware of the increasing number of sexual harassment claims in the last couple of years. While its only one part of what the insurance industry covers under the heading of employment practices liability insurance (EPLI), weve all been sensitized to it. And its critical to the survival of your business that you understand what is and what isnt sexual harassment. There are plenty of gray areas that would be fodder for a team of attorneys. But there are also behaviors that virtually everyone would agree are unacceptable. Heres a look at the basics of what you should know. Sexual Harassment What it Is and What it Isnt Workplaces are not socially sterile environments. Its only natural that casual, friendly interactions and conversations take place daily. After all, were not robots. But a level of mutual respect and social decorum is expected at all times. Specifically, the U.S. Government Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says: It is unlawful to harass a person (an applicant or employee) because of that personâs sex. Harassment can include âsexual harassmentâ or unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical harassment of a sexual nature. Harassment does not have to be of a sexual nature, however, and can include offensive remarks about a personâs sex. For example, it is illegal to harass a woman by making offensive comments about women in general. What about occasional offhand comments? The key is occasional. When the comment is made repeatedly, it can easily drift into being harassment. Thats especially so if the offended person has made it clear they do not like the comment or that it makes them feel uncomfortable. Best practice: treat others the way you want to be treated. Or they way youd want your spouse or child treated. From a legal standpoint, the standard is what would a reasonable person do or expect? So the mere act of giving a brief hug one time is probably not harassment. Continued, especially when called out as not acceptable, would move the action into the category of pervasive, which might be considered harassment. How To Protect Your Business First and foremost, employee awareness training is essential. This accomplishes two important objectives: Its permanent evidence that an official company policy exists and that its been communicated It makes all employees more conscious of their actions and how they might be perceived. USA Today suggests the following five points in setting up a sexual harassment training: Require in-person attendance. Dont just include a page in their employee handbook. Allow plenty of time for discourse. Open and candid discussion can help erase those gray areas. Make sexual harassment training continuous. Employees come and go, and they forget. Keep it professional and current. Get an expert if you dont feel qualified. Make it about behavior. Clarity about what is and isnt sexual harassment makes for better understanding. In todays litigious world, theres seemingly an endless number of liability exposures for the typical business. As part of the coverage offered under EPLI, a broad range of potential employee/employer liability is covered. So its a good idea to discuss such coverage with your insurance agent. The bottom line: being proactive is the best policy. What is Your Interview Strategy - Hire Imaging
What is Your Interview Strategy - Hire Imaging You should always go into a job interview with a clear sense of what you want to accomplish. This may sound like a no-brainer, but itâs not always as obvious as it seems. The challenge is in the nature of the interview process. From the employerâs perspective, interviews fall into three categories based on what the employer wants to accomplish. The three main categories are: Screening interviews Selection interviews (employment decisions) Confirmation interviews Hereâs a closer look at each: The screening interview The purpose of a screening interview is to narrow down a relatively large number of likely candidates to a smaller list of top choices. In large companies, these preliminary interviews are generally handled by the human resources department or a recruiter. In smaller companies, the screening interview may be conducted by an assistant of the key decision-maker. Regardless of whoâs doing the interviewing, your strategy in a screening interview should be to concentrate on one purpose: to stay in the running and move ahead to the next phase of the process. Donât think about getting the offer yet â" one step at a time! The main thing that people who conduct screening interviews care about is how closely your skills and qualifications match the criteria that have been developed for the job at hand. Other key hiring criteria â" how well you fit into the company or your motivation â" are obviously important; but not vital at this stage of the interview process. So as long as you donât come across as someone who clearly wonât fit, you donât have to worry as much about these two aspects of your interview performance as you do in later interviews. The important things to focus on during a screening interview are: Being able to cite specific examples that verify the information in your resume. Being able to articulate a clear, concise, and convincing reason for why you are interested in this particular job. Being able to defend any obvious weaknesses in your resume (the fact that you got to the screening interview to begin with probably means that you donât have any apparent weaknesses to defend). Responding to questions in an open, direct way that communicates to your interviewer that you have nothing to hide. Gathering information about the position that can give you a clearer idea of the job, the company, the culture, and the person who will make the final hiring decision. Even though the person interviewing you during a screening interview may be a mid-level employee with little influence on the hiring decision and no in-depth knowledge of the position, act as though he or she does. Be respectful and convey patience. Remember, before you can proceed to the next stage of the interviewing process, you have to get by the screener. The selection interview In a selection interview, you can assume that your basic qualifications are no longer a primary issue in the hiring decision. If you werenât qualified for the job, you wouldnât be talking to the decision-maker(s). Your strategy should be to focus on what you can bring to the company in addition to those basic skills and qualifications. What you want to sell more than anything else in a selection interview is value. The confirmation interview In most but not all cases, confirmation interviews are making-it-official matters. The person responsible for the hiring decision has decided that you are the candidate of choice but, as a matter of courtesy, is introducing you to his or her boss before finally making the offer. Keep in mind that you donât have to sell yourself too hard during a confirmation interview. You simply have to be on your best behavior and not do anything that would cause anyone to flinch! Stay somewhat guarded, and keep your opinions to yourself! If youâve made it this far, you should be able to handle the confirmation with grace and confidence â" moving toward that written offer and your new position! What are your thoughts about the three phases of interviews? Iâd love to hear from you. Please comment below.

Motivation Monday Things You Didnt Know About Job Search
Motivation Monday Things You Didnt Know About Job Search Have you just discovered there were things you didnt know about job search? Its not your fault. They changed some of the rules on you while you werent paying attention. But, there some easy fixes you can today that will greatly improve your future success. The Curse of Knowledge Have you heard any of these sayings before? You dont know what you dont know If I knew then what I know now At this point in time, you only know about the things youve taken time to learn or what youve been exposed to through your life experiences. Think about this for a second or two. Enter the four stages of competence. *credit Wikipedia What stage are you in when it comes to your job search? Can you see why you dont know about some of the changes in job search? If you havent had to look for a job within the last year, doesnt it make sense that there are things you didnt know about job search? By TyIzaeL This file was derived from: Competence Hierarchy adapted from Noel Burch by Igor Kokcharov.jpg by Kokcharov, CC BY-SA 4.0, Link 3 Things You Didnt Know About Job Search The rules and procedures in job search have changed. Id like to bring you up to speed and help you understand how companies fill jobs, how they decide who to interview and what you can do to improve your efforts! How companies really fill jobs Pay attention to the green bars! Those represent the percent of hires. The blue bars are interviews. 30ish% came from REFERRALS Less than 30% came from INDEED.com Image via SilkRoads 2017 Report Or look at this data 41% of the highest quality new hires come from EMPLOYEE REFERRALS What this means is that youre more likely to secure a new job if you are referred. And the only way to get referred is to know people. Your current network probably isnt large enough to net you job opportunities, so this means youll need to grow the number of people you know. The best way to grow your network Develop a list of companies you would like to work with and target them. Your goal is to meet people who work inside the company so you can potentially get referred when there is an opening. Applying blindly to online job postings is futile. Your odds of getting hired are slim. Invest time doing the work and developing relationships! That will be a life-long payoff. This is how companies select candidates to interview They use ATS (applicant tracking systems) and search the pool of applications by keywords to select only a small percentage of applicants. Some research says that out of 250 resumes, 4-6 are interviewed and only one is hired. Life-Long Learning Thats the secret that will not only help your job search but will also help you in your career. Become more inquisitive. Just this one simple change in your daily outlook will help you learn and open your mind. Adopting the notion of being a life-long-learning can help you pivot into new directions, adapt to the rapid changes of corporate life, and even to live longer.
